Turn Your Career Goals Into a Plan

Choosing a career is about more than selecting a job. It is an opportunity to think intentionally about your interests, strengths, skills, experiences, and the type of work you hope to pursue in the future.

This month's Career Scholarship Spotlight features the Love Your Career Scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship designed for college students who are thinking seriously about their career interests and future goals.

Offered by JonesTshirts.com, the scholarship encourages students to explore what it could mean to build a career around work they genuinely enjoy while developing practical steps toward making that goal a reality.

Scholarship Overview

Award Amount

$1,000

One scholarship recipient is selected for each scholarship cycle. The scholarship is offered twice annually, with deadlines in January and September.

Application Deadline

September 10, 2026

Applicants should carefully review all requirements before submitting. The sponsor states that submissions must follow the essay and submission instructions exactly to be considered.

Who Should Consider Applying?

This scholarship may be a strong fit for students who are:

  • Enrolled in a college or university in the United States for the Fall 2026 semester.

  • Exploring a career field they are passionate about.

  • Developing goals for their education and professional future.

  • Interested in identifying concrete steps they can take to begin building their career.

  • Willing to interview an experienced professional working in a field they are considering.

  • Interested in connecting their college experience with long-term career planning.

What Does the Application Require?

Applicants must prepare an original essay of 1,000–3,000 words.

The essay asks students to outline at least three steps they plan to take during the next year to begin pursuing a career they love. Students are encouraged to consider their passions, skills, potential career paths, and even business ideas connected to work they enjoy.

There is also an important career exploration component.

Applicants must interview a professional with at least three years of experience in the career field they are considering and incorporate responses to at least three of the scholarship's approved interview questions into the essay.

This makes the application more than a traditional scholarship essay, it also gives students an opportunity to conduct career research and learn directly from someone already working in their field.

Why We Recommend This Opportunity

Career development begins long before someone submits their first job application.

It can begin with asking thoughtful questions:

What am I interested in?

What skills do I want to develop?

What kind of work would I find meaningful?

What can I start doing today to move toward that career?

The Love Your Career Scholarship encourages students to move from simply identifying a career interest to developing actionable next steps.

We especially appreciate the professional interview component because learning can become more meaningful when we have access to engage with people already working in the industries they hope to enter.

A conversation with an experienced professional can introduce students to career expectations, challenges, educational pathways, skills, and experiences they may not discover through classroom learning alone.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit:

  1. Their completed essay as a PDF.

  2. Proof of school enrollment as a separate attachment.

The sponsor requires the two documents to be submitted as two separate attachments.

For the Fall 2026 scholarship cycle, applicants should use the subject line:

Applicants should review the official scholarship page before submitting to ensure they are following all current instructions.

Share With Your Learners

If you're an educator, counselor, workforce professional, career advisor, mentor, college access professional, or community partner, consider sharing this scholarship with learners who are beginning to think seriously about their careers.

The professional interview requirement can also provide an opportunity to encourage learners to build their professional networks, practice informational interviewing, and learn directly from people working in fields that interest them.

Sometimes career development starts with one conversation, one connection, or one decision to turn an interest into a plan.
