Interdisciplinary Learning

Through STEAMS Initiative, we use an interdisciplinary method designed to promote applicable learning. Our courses integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Social Studies, offering a well-rounded approach that helps students actively engage with content across multiple subjects using our 8-Step PBLP Framework. Our most recent PBLP feature our updated Pedagogy, "STREAMSS," offering a new model that includes Reading-to-Research.

It’s hard to deny that reading is an essential early skill, one that often requires extra support in the beginning. Yet once students have the basics, reading should launch them into something bigger.

Inquiry-based reading builds the kind of literacy skills that are needed in STREAMSS for a true read-to-research framework within interdisciplinary learning.

It shifts students beyond memorizing strategies and into analyzing perspectives, using context clues, asking meaningful questions, and connecting ideas across subjects. Reading becomes a way to understand the bigger picture, meaning, purpose, and text group.

Have you considered that the way we teach reading might matter just as much as what we read?

Structured Literacy is the approach most of us grew up with, breaking reading into steps like phonics, decoding, fluency drills, and comprehension worksheets. It’s a method built on routines and repetition, helping students recognize words and read them accurately. And while these mechanics give learners a foundation, research shows they don’t automatically lead to deeper understanding, curiosity, or critical thinking.

On the other hand, Inquiry-Based Reading, takes students further. Instead of reading to recall, students read to explore, question, and investigate. They analyze perspectives, examine evidence, connect ideas across subjects, and build new meaning from what they discover.
